As Sandy’s remaining rain clouds pass over the East Coast, we’re all keeping an eye on Google’s Crisis Map for the superstorm. Utilizing their state-of-the-art geospatial and mapping technology and their Google Crisis Response team, Google has collected geographic information from a variety of sources to provide real-time information on power outages, emergency shelters, public alerts, as well as, bringing together weather radars, cloud imagery, traffic conditions, and other information critical to public safety.
The map also filters related YouTube videos by geographic location like this one showing flooding on the streets of Cape May, New Jersey:
